Crystal of the Week, Carnelian

By Isabella @TheWandCarver

When you hold a Carnelian, you feel you have held the ages in your hand. It is a warm and knowledgeable crystal and it gives you the feeling that it knows you very well. And there is no wonder as to why – Carnelian is known as a stone of motivation and endurance, leadership, and courage; it gives a rush of warmth and joy that lingers.

Carnelian
My Carnelian ~ photo by i.macy

Carnelian is an orange-coloured variety of Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Although Its name comes from a Latin word meaning “flesh”, it reminds one more of beautiful sunsets in its reddest hue. The ancient Egyptians called Carnelian “the setting sun” and they considered it the active male energy stone, recognised by its glowing vibrant colour. Whilst Carnelian is mainly a reddish to orange hue, it also comes in pinkish-orange colouration to a deep rusty brown.
Ancient warriors wore Carnelian around their necks for courage and physical power to conquer their enemies. Alchemists of the Middle Ages used it as a boiling stone to activate the energy of other Chalcedonies to transform their energy into useful form. In ancient Egypt, Carnelian was thought to be the stone of form and design worn by master architects, to show their rank of builder. The 29th chapter of the Book of the Dead was engraved on Carnelian, as were many of the body amulets, asking for Isis and other Gods to assure safe passage in their afterlife. Carnelian is said to be the first stone in the breastplate of the High Priest, engraved with the name Reuben; it also garnished the sixth foundation wall for the New Jerusalem.

Magickal:
Carnelian is said to attract prosperity, untapped resources and good luck. It is a talisman for success in any money-making venture. If you have read my blog Free Business and Money Spells. Really you may already know the best day and hour of the week to do a business spell is on a Sunday during the hour of the Sun. In the spell you must create a talisman for drawing wealth to your business. What better crystal for the job than Carnelian? Apart from perhaps Sunstone. But I suggest Carnelian as it has money, wealth, and luck drawing powers.

Carnelian is also a fierce protection stone. It is traditionally known to guard against falling masonry and accidents with tools. And, it guards the home from theft, fire, storm or accident. If you have a friend / loved one working in any kind of building of homes or businesses, gift them with a piece of Carnelian jewellery or just a few tumblestones to carry in their pockets. I would also suggest for home protection to have a small glass bowl filled with some small, inexpensive pieces of Carnelian to set in your Health and Well-being area of your home, which in Feng Shui is the centre of your home. These will offer over-all protection for your family, pets, and home. If needs must and you can’t set the bowl in centre of house, perhaps you can attach a tumblestone to a short cord to suspend from ceiling.

Orange and red Carnelian are important crystals to use for love, and for the consummation of love. Orange crystals, particularly, are fertility and potency symbols and are linked with conceiving a child. Carnelian of either colour may help in rekindling passions that might have faded in an otherwise loving relationship.

In ancient times, Carnelian was believed to give the wearer courage in battle and to help timid speakers become both eloquent and bold. Today the same holds true for Carnelian is also called the Stone of Courage and the Singer’s Stone. Carnelian clarifies the voice and gives confidence to the person on stage, whether they are there to sing or to give a speech.

Healing:
Carnelian is full of the life force, stimulating metabolism and a good supply of blood to the organs and tissues. It influences the reproductive organs of both sexes, and increases fertility, overcoming frigidity and impotence. It aids in menstrual and menopausal symptoms and may aid in vitro and artificial insemination.

It benefits in the absorption of vitamins, nutrients, and minerals in the small intestine, and improves blood viscosity and circulation. It helps reduce congestion, phlebitis, varicose veins and haemorrhoids, as well as boils and skin irritations. Carnelian accelerates scarification and heals nosebleeds. However, if these recur, consult a doctor.

It helps heal lower back problems, rheumatism, arthritis, neuralgia, and accelerates healing in bones and ligaments. It aids the relief of depression, especially in those of advanced years.

It provides excellent support for detoxifying from alcohol or other drugs, breaking bad physical habits, and for improving overall health in general.

Please never use information from this blog or anywhere online to self-diagnose or treat your symptoms without seeing a doctor first. Many symptoms can be the same for many different diseases – some may not be serious whilst others are very serious and may need serious medical treatment.

Carnelian is a stabilising crystal, perfect for anchoring in the present. Its high energy helps restore lost vitality and motivation and stimulates creativity for new pursuits. It improves concentration and removes extraneous thoughts in daydreamers, and during meditation. This stone also protects against envy, rage, and resentment – yours, or from others, and encourages a love of life. It is useful for overcoming abuse of any kind, helping you to trust yourself and your perceptions.

Carnelian alleviates jealousy and possessiveness in relationships, and is helpful in overcoming sexual anxieties, and eating disorders. It is also beneficial with male mid-life crisis.

The reddish-orange Carnelian is the stone of the Sacral Chakra. Gut feelings, intuition, and other “non-linear” communication comes from this chakra. When it is out of balance the symptoms will manifest themselves as confusion, over dependency on others, repression of feelings, inability to feel joy, fear of sensuality or sex, and frustration. When it is in balance you have grace, feel pleasure in life, find you are flexible and can “go with the flow” and do so in good spirit. Darker shades of Carnelian are helpful to the Base Chakra and the pink shades resonate with the Heart Chakra.

Carnelian is always a good crystal to have near when you read Tarot or cast runes…or even pendulum dowsing.

Crystal of the Week, Amethyst

By Isabella @TheWandCarver
Instagram: @thewandcarver

The name Amethyst is derived from the Greek word ametusthos, meaning “not intoxicated,” and is explained by an ancient legend. The wine God Bacchus, angry over an insult and determined to avenge himself decreed the first person he should meet would be devoured by his tigers. The unfortunate mortal happened to be a beautiful maiden called Amethyst on her way to worship at the shrine of Diana. As the ferocious beasts sprang, she sought the protection of the Goddess and was saved by being turned into a clear, white crystal. Bacchus, regretting his cruelty, poured the juice of his grapes over the stone as an offering, giving the gem its lovely purple hue.

Since then, Amethyst has been connected to the Divine in many ways. One way we use today is as the jewel connecting our Crown Chakra to the Divine realm. To the Hebrews, it was Ahlamah, the ninth stone in the breastplate of the High Priest, engraved with the tribe of Dan, as well as the twelfth foundation stone for the New Jerusalem. To the Egyptians, it was Hemag, listed in the Book of the Dead to be carved into heart-shaped amulets for burial. Amethyst has always been a popular choice in rosaries and prayer beads, credited with creating an atmosphere of pious calm. Maybe just because Amethyst is so close to the Divine!

We still use Amethyst in meditation, and other ways to calm ourselves; to reach out to our Divine Parents/Gods/Goddesses, to purify auras. We use it in healing, and preventative medicine. Amethyst is a go-to crystal for so many things, you really must include it in your crystals collections if you have not already.

Magickal:

Amethyst

Amethyst has been believed for ages to prevent evil thoughts and increase intelligence. Travellers wear it for protection from all kinds of treachery on the open road, sea, or air. In the olden days, Amethyst was considered to be a powerful psychic stone of protection against witchcraft and black magic. Nowadays witches use it to also protect but not necessarily against witches but definitely against evil, psychic attack, and any kind of harm that could befall them. Amethyst not only protects against psychic attack, paranormal harm or ill-wishing, but then it returns the energy back to the Universe after being transformed into positive, loving energy. To increase this power and attract good luck, draw an image of the sun and the crescent moon over an Amethyst in lavender incense smoke. We also use the Amethyst to expand the higher mind and help to provide with psychic development. It is an excellent crystal have near when dowsing, casting runes, and/or tarot readings. Amethyst helps in the assimilation of ideas, putting thought into action, and brings projects to fruition. It is a talisman of focus and success. Darker shades of Amethyst are best for those working with creative arts. Because of this, it is often called the Artist’s Stone, the Composer’s Stone, the Inventor’s, Poet’s and Painter’s Stones.

Amethyst is the stone of St Valentine and of faithful lovers because St. Valentine was thought to have worn an Amethyst ring engraved with the image of Cupid. It is also referred to as the “couple’s stone” and gives meaning to relationships that over time, transcends the carnal union and gives way to deeper connection and a more soulful communion. Wear as an engagement or eternity ring for fidelity, or as a locket to call back lost love.

Healing:
Called the “All-healer,” Amethyst is one of the most effective crystals for healing people, plants and animals. Natural unpolished Amethysts or geodes are particularly helpful placed where plants will not grow, or animals refuse to sit. It also counteracts negative earth energies beneath buildings or anywhere that feels hostile. It is useful in spells to help let go of addictions. Amethyst is connected to the Temperance card in the tarot, representing balance. It is a stone dedicated to curbing overindulgence and unhealthy habits, and is an excellent aid to quitting smoking, drinking and drug use, as well as unhealthy physical passion. It also provides the strength needed to obtain freedom from addictive personalities, one’s own or another’s

Worn or placed over a patient, it helps to cleanse, purify and heal the mind, body and spirit. It helps to balance emotions and prevents nightmares and irrational fears. Referred to as “nature’s tranquiliser,” Amethyst calms and soothes, assisting the transmission of neural signals through the brain. It relieves obsessive compulsive disorder and hyperactivity in children and animals. Place under the pillow or mattress or rub the centre of the forehead in and anti-clockwise motion to cure insomnia and stimulate pleasant dreams. It is especially effective for children’s recurring nightmares and fears of the dark and may help alleviate homesickness.

Crystal of the Week, Preseli Bluestone

By Isabella @TheWandCarver
Instagram: @thewandcarver

The-Bluestone-portal by garyllewellyn.com Judy Hall
The Bluestone Porthole by garyllewellyn.com for Judy Hall

What were the builders of Stonehenge so attracted to, to choose Preseli Bluestone as the stones for the inner circle of the henge? What about it resonated with them so intensely to drag these stones 150+ miles to the henge to add to its creation? Well, I think most of you may be able to answer that by holding one. For me, without thinking, I felt the word “ancestor” [which is not odd for me in this case as one of my familial lineages have been in Salisbury, Wiltshire for as far back as c 1100 – that I know of… it well could be further back than then] come to mind. I felt history and time and people all at one go. You might think I would be very familiar with the stone already but not really. There are so many thousands of different crystals and stones in this world and although I’ve spent many years studying them and working with them, I really haven’t touched the sides yet. You can only really learn by spending a goodly amount of time with and reading about and working with, a stone or crystal…so yes, I always feel “behind” in my studies. And the very first thing I do with any stone is to hold it and record my very first, virgin reactions. It’s almost scary how I’m right almost every time. This is not bragging…anyone can do this and I’m betting most of my readers know what I mean.

The Preseli Bluestone, according to Judy Hall, authoress of The Crystal Bible and all its descendants, says “Bluestone is unique. It has high paramagnetic resonance and a distinctive appearance. Bluestone reconnects to your ancient knowing, helping you to live in harmony with the earth and everything on it. It expands your senses, taking you beyond the everyday and into the metaphysical realms where perception is sharper. You see the world with different eyes when you connect to Bluestone and its sacred sites. Carrying immense healing energy and forming a doorway to other dimensions, Preseli Bluestone helps you connect to earth energies and the wisdom of the Celtic Druidic peoples.” In a much better way, Judy tied together my usual one-word understanding of a stone.

So, when the people from over thousands of years ago travelled to the Preseli Mountains in Wales and found the iconic stone, the huge Saracen shards jutting here and there, then touched them…can you imagine the massive resonating force they must have felt? It’s no wonder they brought all they could back to the henge site. Compasses are said to go bonkers in the Preseli Mountains particularly at the Carn Menyn outcrop from which the bluestones of Stonehenge were sourced. The entire site is riddled with geomagnetic anomalies and powerful telluric earth currents which add power to the stones. And, in case you didn’t know, the Preseli Bluestone originally formed the outer circle but eventually became the inner circle,

Judy Hall also says, “Preseli Bluestone activates the Soma Chakra, located at the hairline above the third eye. A higher resonance of the third eye, when activated the soma chakra opens metaphysical awareness and visionary ability. The chakra also links to the angelic realms and spirit guides. It has to do with perception of the cycles of time and awareness of the workings of synchronicity.”  Got to love a bit of time travel!

So, let’s explore the magickal meanings of this fabulous stone!

Magickal:
The first and foremost feeling from Preseli Bluestone is a powerful feeling of needing to tell you about the past. It can assist you greatly in the development of psychic gifts and aid you in discovering abilities such as dowsing and geomancy. Although primarily a throat and heart chakra, placing the Preseli Bluestone on your solar plexus chakra can stimulate your willpower and inspire courage, and in doing so they help to connect the throat, heart, and thymus [higher heart] chakras.

Preseli Bluestone is one of the best stones ever for past life regressions. These stones have all the knowledge of the ages and when used in meditation to travel back in time, you can easily learn about past lives you’ve possibly had in ancient Celtic Britain and in ancient Egypt. Preseli Bluestone may help you to discover aspects of past lives that may be holding you back in your current life.

The Preseli Bluestone is remarkable for grounding oneself before a ritual or just because you’re feeling a bit scattered. It can truly bring you back to Earth and keep you firmly planted during a tough emotional time. Keep one as a talisman for this purpose with you always if you are given to anxiety attacks.

Keeping one by your bed can possibly create dreams that may help you to remember past lives in ancient Atlantis or if you spent time in the past as part of any Druidic culture.

It is also said that the Preseli Bluestone can help one discern the truth from listening to another speak.

Healing:

Preseli Bluestone

The vibrations are very high in Preseli Bluestone. Many of you may know that when a cat purrs, it is not always purring from the joy of being with its favourite human but may be purring to heal itself. They know that the frequency of their purr can indeed heal many ills. The vibrational frequency of Preseli Bluestone works in much the same way and the Ancient Ones found that bones would heal much more quickly when these stones were near. An amazing healing device used by some Pranic healers is the Preseli Bluestone wand.

Crystal of the Week, Unakite

By Isabella @TheWandCarver
Instagram: @thewandcarver

Not surprisingly, Unakite is a form of Jasper. The elements of Red Jasper and Epidote blend stunningly in Unakite and because of its colouration it is a very strong Heart Chakra stone. The green of the Epidote brings abundance whilst the pinkish-red of the red Jasper compassion, love, and kindness. This is a go-to crystal to lift ones’ spirits; it is an all-round emotional healer.

Unakite Jasper is also called Epidote, for its main component deriving its name from the Greek epidosis meaning “growing together.” An amalgamation of Red Jasper, pink Feldspar and green Epidote, Unakite is solidly bound together and is said to symbolise “what comes together belongs together.”

Unakite is a gentle crystal. It is a good one to use to help children open up when having problems with school, bullying, or other things going on in their lives. You can virtually feel the compassion it has radiating from it. If ever you are feeling overly sensitive and overwhelmed, Unakite will support you kindly and help you to re-focus your thoughts on the here and now.

Magickal:

Unakite
My Unakite ~ i.macy

According to authoress Catherine Eason: For lasting love, Unakite is traditionally sprinkled with dried yarrow and placed in a sealed bag as a marriage or commitment symbol. It should be replaced on anniversaries and the old crystal and yarrow cast into running water. To help two become three, place Unakite under the pillow to aid in conception. During pregnancy a piece of Unakite on the womb helps parents-to-be make spiritual connection with their unborn baby; it is marvellous for use during labour to ease the transition. A large
specimen or bowl of Unakite tumblestones in the environment brings a calm, gentle energy and negates the effects of electromagnetic pollution from televisions, computers and other technological devices.

Placed on the Third Eye, Unakite Jasper promotes visualisation and encourages psychic vision. It may also be used as a casting crystal for scrying, signifying where compromise and integration are needed. It is very useful to keep near whilst reading tarot cards, casting runes, and pendulum dowsing.

Dreaming of Jasper signifies love returned. Unakite Jasper is a talisman for those who have trouble finding things [like me!]. It is also a good luck charm, especially when taking a risk. It helps one sustain their power in situations where they would more likely be the victim and is also believed to impart confident control to the user in magic spell casting.

Healing:
Unakite supports the physical structure of the heart, but gently gets to the root cause of disease or health issues caused by the emotional heart, particularly deep-seated feelings that have been repressed, such as anger and resentment. Habitual internalisation of these emotions creates standing patterns of energy within the body. Unakite brings these wounds to the surface in a way that avoids any new trauma and ameliorates their release slowly and gently, consistently over time, along with the negative thoughts and toxic behaviours that perpetuate them.

Unakite Jasper helps promote the growth of healthy tissue in general and is particularly useful in support of the heart and lungs, assisting function, circulation, balance of bodily fluids and metabolism. It is also considered highly restorative in cases of tissue deterioration and in treating diseases or cancers of these areas.

Unakite Jasper aids the reproductive system, promoting healthy pregnancy and stimulating weight gain where required. It is believed to be good for breathing irregularities and hyperventilation and helps ease the transition in labour.

Crystal of the Week, Bloodstone

Bloodstones
Nearest Bloodstone has Quartz mixed in and farthest one has very small flecks of red ~ photo by i.macy

Bloodstone, or Heliotrope, is one of the most gorgeous Jaspers, ever. Of course, it gets its name from the oft-repeated legends where the blood from Jesus’ wound from the spear in His side whilst on the cross fell upon a green Jasper and the other story is of when, during the crucifixion, His blood fell to the Earth and formed the stone that way. Either way, I’m sure perhaps some Christian readers may be annoyed with my surmisel but that was true alchemy, real magick. No matter how Bloodstone came to be born, I’m glad it was. It is regarded as a gem of noble sacrifice and can offer courage and solace to all who are called to give of themselves for the good of others. It elicits the highest, most altruistic character of those who wear or carry it.

Of course, Bloodstone existed much earlier in time than Christ’s death… or even His birth, for that matter. The ancient Mesopotamians used the crystal as a healer for detoxifying the blood and organs some five-thousand years previous. Apparently, it was also used to draw out snake venom, staunch wounds, and to cure tumours. Ever since, Bloodstone has been carried by many as a preventative to disease.

Magickal:
Bloodstone is thought more of as a healer, not most readily thought of for magick. However, it does have many magickal qualities. It is a crystal of protection but most importantly, its protection qualities benefit those whom are being bullied, teased, and victims of both physical and verbal abuse. It is recommended to sew a bloodstone into the lining of a coat or jacket of a child or teenager whom is being bullied. This may partially be because the Bloodstone is amazing for helping give courage to and to soothe anxiety for anyone at the end of their tether.

Bloodstone heightens ones’ intuition and therefore a good crystal to have with you if you read tarot, cast runes, ogham, or do pendulum dowsing. It is an excellent crystal to have with you if you engage in lucid dreaming.

Bloodstone’s magickal properties allow one to draw upon the power of the weather for personal healing, such as tapping into the winds to bring change or the rain to wash away sorrow.

Known as “the rain bringer,” Jasper has been revered since ancient and medieval times as a divining stone of “tempestaries,” magickal masters of the wind and rain, called upon in secret to save harvests in periods of drought, or to save ships from violent storms. Bloodstone, Green and Brown Jaspers were considered the most powerful for this purpose. Jasper was also used by the Native Americans for dowsing the land for water, and Red Jasper was especially helpful in increasing the searcher’s sensitivity to the Earth.

If you are having a baby, Bloodstone may come in useful to help bond after the baby’s birth, particularly if mother and child can’t be together right after birth. Most amazingly, this crystal also works with all animals this way.

Healing:
Associated with birth and birthing processes, Bloodstone is a great crystal for women during the childbearing years. It stimulates nutrient-rich blood and hormonal balance and is thought to help prevent miscarriages. It assists in easing the birthing process, providing strength during labour and supportive vibrations so the baby travels easily through the birth canal. It is also believed to alleviate symptoms of PMT/PMS and menstrual disorders, and to stabilise hormones through menopause.

Bloodstone dipped in cold water and applied to an afflicted area is highly beneficial in staunching blood flow, particularly nosebleeds. Keep the stone wet and re-dip as necessary.

Carry a Bloodstone to be used to boost the immune system and to purify the blood, spleen, liver, kidneys, bladder, and intestines, neutralising and eliminating toxins from the body. It benefits blood-rich organs, regulates and stimulates blood flow, and aids circulation. It is conducive to healthy bone marrow and may be used in the treatments of blood disorders such as anaemia, leukaemia, tumours, acute infections, and over acidification.

Crystal of the Week, Bronzite

Bronzite
My Bronzite ~ photo by i.macy

I chose Bronzite for this week because of my own problems. My biggest problem is fear, believe it or not. I realise that most of my other problems are simply symptoms of my biggest problem, so I finally decided it was what I needed to deal with first then all the other problems would be small potatoes in relationship. I thought that perhaps this is something many of my readers might relate to because if we all look at ourselves honestly, isn’t fear just about the number one peace of mind destroyer for us all? So, how do we get rid of it?

We don’t.

I’m sorry to tell you but we will always have fear. But that isn’t always a terrible thing because a healthy amount of fear keeps us from trying to fly off cliffs and such. But what about the people who literally do fly off cliffs? Ah, those are the ones whom have embraced their fear and use it to their advantage and with safety features, ha ha! Seriously, though, we do need to embrace our fear. Make it a part of us. Look it in the eye and when we can, we accept it and move on. It is a part of us the same as our minds, our arms and legs. Could you learn to rejoice in your fear? Probably. And when you do, you will see miracles.

How does Bronzite help?

Bronzite is one of the most self-confidence boosting crystals you’ll ever own! It does dispel negativity but in my personal use it does not necessarily reduce my fear levels… what it does do is teach me how to reduce fear myself! I like this because should I not have it with me and having a scary moment, I will know what to do. So, enough about me, we’ll get on with the Magick!

Magickal:
Used mainly for grounding and protection, and to help one follow their intuition to make the proper decisions. You can find many beautiful pieces of jewellery online made with Bronzite which can be helpful amulets for protection purposes as well as helping you to face fears, real or imagined. Bronzite is especially helpful when planning important physical moves whether that be to another home or another occupation, especially when great distance is involved.

Bronzite is a crystal that will not only dispel the curse someone has placed on you, but it will return to sender. It also seems to completely eradicate the problem caused by the spell or ill-wishing.

Bronzite is also said to be a great comfort and cure for a broken heart.

Meditation with Bronzite can leave you feeling completely rejuvenated and rested. It will help you to discern the real fears from the irrational fears and teaches you how to focus on and accept the real fears. It helps you to acknowledge those fears and create a place of acceptance in your life for them but at the same time, Bronzite helps provide you with the peace of mind to be happy with your decision to do so. You will find yourself learning from your fear and becoming a better person for it. It’s true alchemy!

Healing:
Bronzite is used in healing efforts associated with imbalances in the energy associated with the Solar Plexus and Sacral chakras. The Solar Plexus is the energy distribution centre, the first of the chakras of relationships. This chakra is located between the ribcage and navel. It controls the immune system and digestive systems. When in balance physically you have strength to fight infections, are free of allergic reactions, and can use the nutrients you ingest. When the Sacral is out of balance the symptoms will manifest themselves as confusion, over dependency on others, repression of feelings, inability to feel joy, fear of sensuality or sex, and frustration and bitterness.

Correspondences:
Energy: Projective
Element: Earth
Zodiac: Leo
Birthstone: Natural birthstone of August
Planet: Venus
Deities: Sjofn [Norse], Vishnu [India]
Powers: Courage, Grounding, Harmony, Power, Protection
Chakras: Root, Sacral, and Heart
Candle Colour: Brown or Gold

Many thanks for reading my little offering today! I truly hope you find something useful from this… fear is an ugly feeling, I know. But I believe we can turn it into a beautiful feeling and if Bronzite is helpful to you in doing so, so much the better. Warmest blessings to all whom this way wander x

Crystal of the Week, Emerald

By Isabella @TheWandCarver

Instagram: @thewandcarver

As Emerald is the birthstone for May babies, of which I am one, I thought it might be nice to talk about them. For much of my younger life I only regarded Emerald the same as I would Diamond or Sapphire – it was an expensive stone and only for engagement rings or a small chip to wear in a solitaire setting as your birthstone ring. But, back in those days I had not really started digging into why certain “rocks” and stones could make a person feel a certain way.

Emeralds Rough
My rough Emeralds ~ photo by i.macy

Emerald is called the “Stone of Eternal Love”. It is one of the reasons Prince Albert chose this stone as his engagement ring to Queen Victoria, and the other was that it was her birthstone. In fact, the Emerald was also set in a ring resembling a snake, another representation of eternal love. As with everything the young Victoria wore, jewellery included, it was snapped up as the fashion of the day and birthstone engagement rings became the Victorian standard, not to mention that they now existed full stop because of Albert’s loving gesture to his bride-to-be. Up until 1840, engagement rings were not a “thing”.

The Emerald has been around since forever. It was found to be sold in the markets of Babylon as early as 4000 BCE. The early Chaldeans believed Emeralds contained a Goddess. Cleopatra favoured the Emerald above all and the Emerald mines in Upper Egypt, rediscovered a hundred years ago, are some of the oldest in the world and were called Cleopatra’s mines for her love of the stone. Emeralds were considered a symbol of eternal life in ancient Egypt and carried as talismans.

Magickal
As Emerald is a “month of love” stone, being Venus as the ruler of all Taureans, it is a stone which can help re-ignite passions. It is said that to call back an estranged love, speak the words you wish to say holding the stone close to your lips and seal it in an envelope. Emerald likewise helps with the break-up of a relationship. Worn near the heart, it is optimal for attracting love to you.

It was once believed that Emerald talismans could calm storms, prevent miscarriages, bring good luck, and when placed under the tongue, allow one to prophesy, useful in past life recall. Protects from domestic violence. Banishes nightmares. Protects from psychic attack.

Healing
Emerald aids eyesight, a strong healer of the heart. It also may be useful in healing the lungs, thymus, pancreas, and the lymphatic system. Helps ease transitions in menopause and can help in healing from an infectious illness.

Emerald shields social workers and counsellors from being worn down. It is also a very good stone for helping young people feel better about themselves from being bullied and teased and restores their positive self-esteem. You don’t need an expensive Emerald ring for this purpose as you can purchase turmblestone Emeralds. Opaque stones should not be used for meditation or working with emotions. The Emerald is a stone of regeneration when it comes to mental healing – it encourages love and compassion for one’s self as well as for others.

Crystal of the Week, Black Kyanite

By Isabella @TheWandCarver

Instagram: @thewandcarver

As, ever, before writing, I like to hold the crystal I’m blogging about for a bit… to renew my friendship with it and to feel the vibrations; what they are telling me. How do I describe the feeling of being switched round and put back together at warp speed? I suppose if any of you know that description then I don’t need to elaborate. It was very moving, no pun intended. And at the same time, I felt perfectly rooted to my seat. Not a hair out of place… but oh! What a ride! That is Black Kyanite for you!

My Black Kyanite ~ photo by i.macy

My opinion of what just happened is, whilst having me perfectly grounded, my Black Kyanite “fixed” my yin yang, finished healing my Root Chakra [forgot to mention I have been on a chakra clearing/repairing … lately after finding myself very blocked up] and then stripped of the stifling aura which has clung round me for too long and freshened me right up. Yes, I do feel rather amazing right now!

To be honest, I don’t always get hardcore feelings from crystals. Not in the earth-shattering way that I just did. Yes, I do always get vibrations, however, most of the time they are more “attuned” to me and what I’m using them for. It just occurred to me that this is what happens to a low vibration person. Normally my vibration is relatively medium to high. When I’m not well or have been remiss about taking care of myself, etc, my vibrational level sinks. What Black Kyanite does to low vibration people could be a little scary at first. I must say that I’m glad I have been working with my chakras up til this writing because that has most likely saved me a real comeuppance! So, my suggestion to all who read this is, please have your chakras in check before working with Black Kyanite or expect a wild ride whilst it repairs you!

Magickal
Black Kyanite is a good talisman stone. It is protective of its bearer. It is a perfect grounding stone before rituals. Black Kyanite helps you to remember so it will be good to use when you’ve spent time memorising a lengthy spell chant. Keep close by when doing any divination works. Cassandra Eason says in The New Crystal Bible, “You will have cause to speak your mind, but do not waste words on those who will not listen.” I think it means, don’t waste your gift upon those whom only want good fortunes told and are dismissive of the words foretold that may not suit them. Still, as an all-chakra stone, it is an excellent partner to have near when reading tarot or any other divination work as it helps keep your Third Eye Chakra balanced. Black Kyanite is excellent against psychic attack. Additionally, Black Kyanite is self-cleansing so no need to clean but can be recharged in the full moon, if desired. Please be sure never to soak in water.

Meditation
Brilliant crystal for past-life regression work, is Black Kyanite. A lot of people are doing future life progressions, something I honestly see no point of. Still, the Black Kyanite is there for you if that is what you wish to do. It strengthens the tether between Spirit and the Otherworld and can be used successfully in astral protection and hedge witchery. You can cleanse, clear, and re-build/repair all your chakras in meditation with Black Kyanite, however, its speciality is the Root/Base Chakra. And, as a special bonus, you can use your Black Kyanite to get in touch with your Spirit Guide/Guardian Angel for the very first time. If you have never attempted yet to meet your Guardian, Black Kyanite will be a stellar help in doing so. One thing to remember is that Black Kyanite will rapidly place you into a deep meditative state more so than many crystals will. It is also very useful for reading lucid dreaming messages.

Healing
Black Kyanite treats muscular disorders, fevers, thyroid, adrenal glands, throat and brain; a natural pain reliever; lowers blood pressure; heals infections; releases excess weight, supports the cerebellum. This crystal is, of course, a very useful one to Pranic Healers, and my personal opinion is that it would be best to see one for any healing work with Black Kyanite.

Crystal of the Week, Serpentine

Instagram: @thewandcarver

By Isabella @TheWandCarver

The word “serpentine” automatically brings to mind “snake”. And, we are all right in that consensus because the Serpentine crystal not only can look like snake skin in some instances, but it is also the premier awakener of the kundalini energies in us all. This lovely crystal, which has also been referred to as “new Jade”, is found predominantly in shades of green from light green to darker green, it may include greenish-black, red, brownish-red, brownish-yellow, yellow and white colours. And, it is easily found in many countries including Australia, Britain, Russia, Norway, Italy, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Brazil, and the US.

Whilst talking of the assorted colours, you will find some Serpentine are quite plain, as evident by many of the ones in my hand, but many times, hence its name, you will find these crystals looking “mottled” and or snakeskin patterned. Because of their resemblance to snakes and the Ancient’s faith in snake “medicine” led to Hermes, the father of alchemy, using the symbol of two intertwining snakes around a sword to represent healing. This same symbolism is still used in the medical profession today. The powerful regenerative energy of this prehistoric reptile is a transformation of rebirth that’s reflected in the snake shedding its skin. This spoke volumes to the Ancients. For these reasons, I would like to go straight to healing first.

Healing
Do you remember as a child when you spotted a garden snake, the glee you felt when you were able to capture it and it slid about in your hand or on your arm, sending you into squeals of happiness and feeling quite giddy about being able to hold something so unique? In a different sense you may get the same kind of feeling from holding a Serpentine crystal. It has a way of bringing back the feeling of childhood and lifting one’s spirits. For me, it brings back the inner child whose glee has been diluted by life and care. I once again feel as though I can, and will, carry on with my dreams.

The most efficient way to channel the Serpentine is through meditation because when it comes to regenerative healing of the mind-body-spirit, Serpentine and peaceful contemplation is like a steak and kidney pie [insert your favourite comfort food instead] for the soul. When you sit quietly with the crystal and give it a specific intention, the stone becomes much more than a pretty crystal sitting on your altar. It now holds a personal meaning that you can call on whenever you need its distinctive healing qualities. It is the absolutely best crystal for the re-birth of one’s spirit.

And, let us not forget your chakras. A little story: I’ve been very busy of late. Why is not important, but what is, is that I have not had a proper chakra cleansing in yonks. I’ve been suffering from plagues of allsorts. Finally, last night, I did my first chakra cleansing meditation in perhaps a year! How bad was it? So bad I could no longer visualise the colours of the chakras. They were all black. I have never seen anything so sad in my life! How dare I think I can help others if I’m not taking care of myself? I do feel much better today because I have managed to at least open the vortexes of the chakras, but I imagine I only got that far because of my Serpentine watching over me on the table. Tonight, I hope to be able to see some colours which will let me know they are coming back to full health and my Serpentine will be with me again.

Serpentine helps to clear out and release the clouded/dense areas of all chakras so that healing can occur. Serpentine will help with healing on all levels [mental, emotional, and physical]. Serpentine forms a unique connection to promote healing in the way that is best for everyone because it works for everyone uniquely and suits itself to the individual. It can also be used to attract/manifest what you want into your life – abundance on all levels, prosperity, love, healing, etc. Serpentine aligns your intent with the Heart Chakra and Divine Source energy. Whilst I would love to manifest some financial abundance into my life, it is imperative that first the healing begin. We can all be rich as Croesus but if we’re not happy and healthy, it matters not.

Serpentine, the snake stone, is full of Kundalini energy. Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning either “coiled up” or “coiling like a snake.” Serpentine helps to create an opening so that the Kundalini may travel and lessons the discomfort, which is sometimes associated with movement. Serpentine also enhances the meditative state and retrieval of ancient wisdom. Working with Kundalini energies is a whole different meditation level and one you must ease yourself into. Having a teacher, even if it is only a reputable one on YouTube is for best if you are a beginner. For healing of pain, there is hardly a better meditation I have found. There again, I recommend you get your chakras in order before doing much else as in many cases, the blocked chakras are what is causing your pain. If you are still in pain after thorough chakra cleansing, you should see your GP. Nothing I tell you here should be expected to replace proper medical attention.

Serpentine is a wonderful talisman for anybody suffering from emotional trauma. It wraps them in a soothing embrace and makes them feel cared for and safe.

Magickal
Serpentine is the premier crystal for protection. It is said to yes, prevent snake bites! The Romans particularly believed it to protect them from sorcery and was believed to protect against parasites, snakebite, venom, and poison. If you enjoy keeping a few crystals for assorted reasons in your pockets or to wear as jewellery, I highly recommend that you carry or wear a Serpentine. They are also fabulous to create talismans from in prosperity magick. In fact, any magick in which you are spell working to draw abundance, love, healing, or protection, you could choose many stones, but you’ll always be right with Serpentine.

Serpentine is a Guardian. They are very useful in protecting those in dangerous lines of work. If you love a fireman/woman, police officer, pilot…anyone where danger is a possibility, buy for them a Serpentine necklace, bracelet, or ring. You can even use Serpentine to protect your belongings. It is a fabulous crystal to use whilst travelling, keeping you and any companions in your travels safe.

Crystal of the Week, Mookaite Jasper

By Isabella @TheWandCarver
Instagram: @thewandcarver

mookaite jasper
My Mookaite Jasper ~ photo by i.macy

Before I began researching this gorgeous crystal, I held the larger of the two in my hand to “feel” what I could from it before reading. I always like to do this with every crystal I write about just to see if my feelings are validated by whatever Ms Hall or Eason or many other crystals writers have found to be true. And, 99% of the time what I am feeling the crystal tells me matches their findings and this time is no different. As I held the Mookaite Jasper in my hand I felt grounded and peaceful; I felt as if I could do whatever I needed to do if I tried but a bit harder. I felt the shackles of worry lift from my mind and soul. This is exactly what Mookaite Jasper does for you. According to both Eason and Simmons, its positive energies increase one’s will and focuses one’s personal power. Mookaite promotes an ageless spirit willing to accept change and seek new experiences and awakens one’s natural instincts in knowing the right direction to take.

Mookaite Jasper is found only in the Kennedy Range of Western Australia in outcroppings near Mooka Creek, the area for which it is named. The Aboriginal term “Mooka” means “running waters” and refers to the numerous springs that feed into this area. Most have the gorgeous rings and sparks of yellows, purples, browns, and reds, however, like my larger Mookaite, they can also be somewhat duller in appearance although this one does have a bit of yellow in it. There are many spelling variations and terms for this stone, including Mookite, Moakite, Moukite, Mookalite, Mookerite, Mook or Mook Jasper, but according to the locals of Mooka Creek who coined the name, only “Mookaite” is correct.

Magickal
Mookaite Jasper is a crystal used in shamanic animal speaking. Holding the crystal allows the shaman to hear and understand what the animal wishes to say. Likewise, it can be used in speaking with your spirit guide/guardian. It is a fabulous stone for pre-ritual grounding and the bonus is that it frees your mind and soul to perform your ritual with no burdens weighing you down. If you tend to procrastinate, carry a Mookaite Jasper round with you. When you feel that you don’t want to do something but know you must just hold it and you will feel the way clear to perform your duties. It works equally as well when faced with indecision.

According to authoress, Judy Hall, an amulet of Mookaite was believed to protect its wearer from drowning, and kept spiders and scorpions at bay.  Mookaite has also been known to warn travellers of dangers ahead.

Healing
Mookaite Jasper physically stabilises us and is believed to not only boost the immune system but also reduces the effects of aging [wish I had know this 40 years ago!]. It is useful in treating cystitis, high blood sugar, and disorders of the kidneys and bladder and restores damaged tissue. Mookaite is an excellent gem elixir – just wash well and keep in drinking water overnight – it then becomes a more direct approach to healing bodily functions by balancing minerals in the body and purifying the blood. It is also believed to be helpful in all reproductive matters and the elixir can be consumed during pregnancy as well.

Emotional Healing
Mookaite Jasper is a wonderful chakra cleansing stone. Although its primary use is for the base and sacral chakras, it is extremely useful with the solar plexus chakra and even the heart chakra. When I place it on my solar plexus chakra I feel the lifting of worries and concerns and it seems to help me feel like forging ahead. Mookaite also acts to stimulate your intuitive abilities, via the vibration within the third eye chakra. It is a wonderfully supportive stone for going beneath the surface of emotions to find core issues that are creating emotional upset. It allows for a calm and stable frame of mind in which to examine and release these negative experiences and inspires confidence and the desire for new experiences. Mookaite makes it easier to accept change and to take a chance without fear. It encourages flexibility by prompting one to envision many possibilities in a situation and assists in choosing the right one.

Thank you for reading today! My hope is that I’ve brought to light for you some very good reasons for owning a Mookaite Jasper. Warmest blessings to all whom this way wander x
